EMILY LICHTER
was the kid in high school who beseeched you to listen to that one great
tune on her walkman, talking up the song's musical merits and key lyrics
all the while. Years later, Emily is still talking about her favorite
music, though these days it’s often on the phone with friends and
associates spread out across the country.
After several years of work in New York City at Sacks & Co. and Rykodisc,
Emily left the city to start her own publicity firm in Western Massachusetts.
public emily’s home office among the beautiful old mill buildings
of Easthampton, MA allows the company to offer professional and engaged
publicity and management services for record labels, independent artists
and musicians at a rate greatly reduced from city-bound firms.
Since 2001, public emily has spearheaded publicity campaigns for artists
including Andrew Bird, Sandra Bernhard, Bruce Cockburn, Amy Rigby, Hamell
on Trial, Dan Bern, Melissa Ferrick, Mark Geary, Janis Ian, Mary Gauthier,
Chris Whitley and many others, as well as The Iron Horse Entertainment
Group and independent labels Signature Sounds and Righteous Babe Records.
Emily also handles anything and everything involving Winterpills, Erin
McKeown andAllison Miller's burgeoning careers.
JUSTIN BROWN is a visual
artist and culture junkie. He came to public emily two years ago after nearly a decade
working for an indie record store chain based in Massachusetts. He believes
music is elixir for the soul. Justin is most fond of his almost full iPod,
the contents of which include: Tori Amos, Rufus Wainwright, Nina Simone,
Blossom Dearie, Jill Scott, Patti Smith, Chopin, Lori McKenna, Ryan Adams
and Calexico - to only skim the surface. He enjoys long walks on the beach,
candlelit dinners and will eat almost anything covered in chocolate.
BEN STERLING is a musician
and writer when not in self-appointed "Public Ben" mode. He
fled the Pioneer Valley in 2004, and now heads public emily’s satellite
Brooklyn office armed only with a laptop, a cell phone and his bare wits.
Ben has worked on national and tour campaigns for Andrew Bird, Dan Bern,
Hamell on Trial, Chris Whitley, and Drums and Tuba among many others.
ANDREW HUCKINS is the newest addition to public emily's rep squad.
Previously/continuously a flamenco guitarist, pipe organ builder and jazz professor, Andrew likes most anything that can be
played on an instrument, from neo-psy-thrash-punk to folk. Andrew got his start in the biz working as Managing Editor for an events magazine in Guatemala,
which he used mercilessly to plug his other endeavor of the time, a jazz trio. He has produced international concerts, internationally,
and believes in supporting local music, locally. In his free moments Andrew works on his own projects, currently including re-scoring old Superman animations and designing a card game.
